Before you start

Gather your tools.

A quick run to the hardware store now saves an awkward pause halfway through your wall.

  • Level or laser level
  • Measuring tape
  • Sharp utility knife (with spare blades)
  • Smoothing tool / squeegee
  • Step ladder
  • Clean cloth or sponge
  • Wallpaper paste (for paste types)
  • Paint roller & tray (for paste‑the‑wall)
Wall preparation

A clean, primed wall does half the work.

  1. CleanWipe the wall down — dust, grease and old residue stop adhesives from grabbing.
  2. RepairFill holes and cracks with spackle. Sand flat once dry.
  3. PrimePrime new drywall or porous areas so paste/adhesive sits evenly.
  4. Power off & remove coversCut power, remove outlet and switch covers for clean edges.
  5. DryWait at least 24 hours after priming before installing.
Installation methods

Three materials. Three approaches.

Pick the section that matches the material you ordered. Every method ends with the same butt‑joint finish — edges meet, no overlap.

01

Peel & Stick

Self‑adhesive panels, repositionable while you work. The simplest install — no paste, no mess.

  1. Acclimate panels in the room for 24 hours.
  2. Mark a vertical guideline with a level — never trust the corner of a wall.
  3. Peel the backing gradually, top down, smoothing as you go.
  4. Butt‑join the next panel edge‑to‑edge — no overlap.
  5. Trim excess at ceiling, baseboard and outlets with a fresh blade.
02

PVC‑Free (paste the wall)

Paste goes onto the wall, panels go on dry. Clean, fast and forgiving.

  1. Mix paste per the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Mark a vertical guideline with a level.
  3. Roll paste on the wall — one panel‑width at a time.
  4. Position the panel directly on the pasted wall and smooth thoroughly.
  5. Butt‑join additional panels and wipe paste residue immediately with a damp cloth.
03

Textured (paste the paper)

The traditional method. The paper soaks paste before it goes up.

  1. Apply paste to the paper backing.
  2. Book the panel — fold paste‑side to paste‑side and rest 3–5 minutes.
  3. Position the top half along your guideline.
  4. Smooth while unfolding the bottom section.
  5. Butt‑join remaining panels and trim excess.
Pro tips

Small things that change the result.

·

Work methodically — wallpaper rewards calm, not speed.

·

Keep the room between 65–75 °F so adhesives behave.

·

Swap to a fresh blade every panel — dull blades drag and tear.

·

Verify pattern alignment before pressing the panel fully.

·

Start early. Good light is your friend.

·

Get a helper for anything wider than a meter.

Common questions

Troubleshooting & FAQ.

What does "butt‑joint" actually mean?

Panels meet edge‑to‑edge, with no overlap and no trimming of seams. Each Muralls panel is printed to align exactly with its neighbour.

Can I install on a textured wall?

Lightly textured walls are fine. For heavy textures (orange peel, knockdown) skim‑coat or sand smooth before installing — texture telegraphs through wallpaper.

How do I get rid of air bubbles?

Smooth from centre outward with your squeegee. Small bubbles usually disappear on their own as the wall dries.

Can I reposition a peel & stick panel?

Yes — peel & stick is repositionable while you're working. Lift gently from one corner and re‑smooth.

How long does an accent wall take?

Most accent walls take 1–3 hours from prep to last cut. Larger murals scale linearly with a helper.

The next panel doesn't line up — what now?

Re‑check your vertical guideline first. If the wall itself is out of plumb, trust the level over the wall and work from a fresh guideline.
